Roadmap

What we're building
  • Messaging

    Basics:

    • Ability to send an email / push message
    • Ability to send a chain of messages to people
    • Target specific users based on their profile or event data

    Advanced:

    • Integration with A/B testing

    Questions for community:

    • Would you use this? What would your use case be?
    • Would it...

No updates yet. Engineers are currently hard at work, so check back soon!

  • PostHog Customer Data Platform

We cover some of the functionality of existing CDP solutions, such as Segment. By creating a UI which specifically encompasses the ideas of "Sources" and "Destinations", along with building out more of the integrations, we can turn PostHog into a leading CDP solution.

  • Webhook destination

We have released the open beta of our new realtime destinations, allowing you to send all of your PostHog events to 3rd party services or your own HTTP Webhooks.

Email template authoring over MCP in workflows

Workflows now supports creating and editing email templates over MCP. Templates are authored as design JSON and rendered server-side by Unlayer. Anything an AI agent generates opens as fully editable blocks in the visual editor, not opaque HTML you can't touch.

Goals

Q2 2026 Objectives

  • Fit into product autonomy (Champion: Dan)
    • Solve the blockers for autonomous workflows by ensuring compatibility with LLM agents.
    • What we’ll ship:
      • PostHog AI can reliably create and iterate on workflows and email designs via multi-turn agent threads
      • Integration with PostHog Signals
      • LLM workflow node with bring-your-own credentials
  • Workflows engine scaling (Champion: Myke)
    • Strengthen our infrastructure so we can maintain high product velocity going forward.
    • What we’ll ship:
      • A job queue we feel confident iterating on
      • Reduced data throughput to support continued scaling
      • Product guardrails to protect reliability
      • Dead letter queue and invocation outcomes store
      • Message sending rate throttling (follow-up to cron/batch workflows)
  • Messaging feature depth (Champion: Haven)
    • Fill the remaining gaps in our messaging capabilities and polish the end-to-end experience.
    • What we’ll ship:
      1. Realtime "wait for event" listeners (wait until event performed, exit early on conversion)
      2. Behavioral cohort triggers (batch workflows for entire cohorts, trigger on membership changes)
      3. Additional native channels (push notifications, SMTP relay)
      4. UX improvements for large workflows (goto/early exit nodes, full-screen mode, general papercuts)
      5. Iteration on table-stakes features (message previewing, email editor)

Who are we building for?

Assessing customer fit

Use this guide to determine if a prospect's use case is a good fit for workflows now, in the future, or at all.

Product Leads / Technical PMs

✅ Fully supported now

Product-focused leads or technical PMs in companies of 10-100 employees who are comfortable with data and events. They're in roles where activation, retention, upsell, and lifecycle are important, often spanning product + marketing/growth responsibilities.

They already use PostHog for product analytics and typically combine it with Zapier, Customer.io, or another tool, but are frustrated with costs of duplicating events across platforms, the time it takes to build automations, or both. They want to consolidate their stack by eliminating an automation tool.

Best fit: Technical PMs who want to consolidate tools and eliminate Zapier/Customer.io while keeping everything in PostHog.

Product Marketers

✅/⏳ Mostly supported now

Marketers actively using workflows for lifecycle marketing, user engagement, and campaign automation. They can build flows to inform, alert, and nurture customers based on product usage data.

What works today: Email workflows, SMS, webhooks, and various destinations for marketing automation

Coming soon:

  • Behavioral cohort targeting - ability to branch in your flows based on whether the user has performed an event in last X days
  • Broadcast triggers - ability to trigger a workflow for an entire cohort

Is this customer a fit?

  • ✅ Yes, if they need email/SMS/webhook-based marketing automation
  • ⏳ Set expectations if they heavily rely on ads destinations (which already has an uncertain future with Destinations), are interested in more advanced A/B marketing campaigns, or require behavioral cohort targeting immediately.

Automation Nerds

⏳ Growing support ➡️ Full support planned

Power users who want to use PostHog as a complete Zapier/n8n alternative with advanced automation capabilities. They need sophisticated workflow logic and custom code integrations, LLM prompting as workflow steps, etc.

What works today: Event-based triggers, multiple destinations, basic workflow logic

Coming later: Custom code execution and other more technical features for advanced automation scenarios

Is this customer a fit?

  • ✅ Yes, if they need standard automation workflows tool triggered primarily by product events
  • ⏳ Wait or set expectations if they require custom code execution or highly technical features (prioritized lower based on our ICP)
