PostHog joins YC W20 batch

PostHog was founded by James and Tim on January 23rd, 2020. We got into Y Combinator's W20 batch, moved to San Francisco, and just a couple of weeks after starting realized that we needed to build PostHog!

Track an event

Use the capture method to send custom events from your codebase. Use this data in PostHog for building cohorts, filtering insights, watching specific session replays, triggering feature flags, adding a user to an A/B test, and more.

We built PostHog on our API. This means you get full access to anything you want with your event and customer data that's ingested by PostHog. Here are some examples.:

Send events, track behavior, identify users, combine them, update person properties, modify groups, and more all via the API.

Evaluate feature flags anywhere
Even if you don't use one of our SDKs, you can get a flag status for a user from the API on-the-fly. Works for all types of flags from boolean to multi-variate.
batch
Migrate from other tools
Batch events to move them en masse from your old tool for use in PostHog (for free). Visualize them in PostHog alongside your newly captured events.
query
Create custom reports
Show stats like active users, pageviews, or daily signups (like we use near the bottom of this page). Import data in our data warehouse and query together.
annotations
Notate when a feature is released
Annotations are useful for understanding inflection points in insights. You can programmatically create annotations like when a PR is merged.

PostHog provides complete SQL access to your data. Use SQL expressions to use JOINs and subqueries, filter event lists, and write complex queries (that aren't supported by the PostHog UI) to analyze data in any way you want.
