Use PostHog AI in Slack

Most questions about your product get asked in Slack, not in PostHog. The PostHog Slack app puts PostHog AI in the thread where the question came up, so you can investigate something without asking someone to go pull a chart and paste it back.

It's a real conversation, not an alert feed. PostHog AI replies in the thread, you can follow up in plain English, and it keeps the whole thread as context for the run.

Start a conversation

There are three ways in:

• Mention @PostHog in a channel. PostHog AI picks up the message and the surrounding thread, and replies in that thread.
• DM the PostHog app. Good for investigating something that doesn't belong in a channel. The app suggests a few starting prompts when you open the DM.
• Reply in an existing thread. Once PostHog AI is working in a thread, you can keep replying without mentioning it again.

While it's working, PostHog AI reacts to your message so you can see the state at a glance: an hourglass when your message is queued behind another, and eyes when it's actively working.

What you can do here

• Investigate a problem – ask why an insight looks wrong, what changed this week, or what's behind a spike, and get an answer grounded in your project's data.
• Discuss an inbox item – talk through a Self-driving signals report and kick off the fix from the thread.
• Start a code change – when the fix belongs in a connected repo, PostHog AI creates a coding task from the thread. A coding agent writes the code in a sandbox and opens a draft pull request for you to review.
• Follow up – keep replying in the thread to refine, redirect, or ask for more detail.
• Approve or deny an action – when PostHog AI needs sign-off on something sensitive, it posts approve and deny buttons in the thread.

If a run fails or stalls, reply retry in the thread to pick up from the last checkpoint.

How it connects to the web app

Slack conversations show up in your PostHog AI chat history in the web app, tagged as a Slack thread and linking back to the original message. Work that produces a task – like a code fix – is visible in the task tracker alongside every other run, so a thread started in Slack and a chat started in the web app end up in the same place.

The reverse isn't true today: you can't move a web app conversation into Slack. Keep a thread in the place you started it.

Requirements and limits

To use PostHog AI in Slack, install the PostHog Slack app in your workspace. Your Slack email needs to match your PostHog account so PostHog AI knows which project and permissions to work with, and opening pull requests requires a connected repository.

A few things to know. Slack is a text surface, so PostHog AI answers in writing rather than rendering insights or notebooks – open the web app for the visual output. Long replies are split into chunks, and replies in a thread that aren't clearly aimed at PostHog AI may be ignored, so mention it directly if you want a response.
