Get started with Business Knowledge
Business Knowledge is in private beta. If Business Knowledge isn't in your PostHog sidebar, your project isn't in the beta yet. Send feedback in the app.
Add your knowledge
Open Business Knowledge and choose Add source. Most teams start with their docs and website. Paste the URL and choose Sitemap.xml or Same-origin crawl, so PostHog indexes every page instead of one. Set auto-refresh to every day, and new pages show up without you adding them again.
You can also paste a policy as text, or upload a PDF, DOCX, Markdown, CSV, or plain text file.
Turn on AI data processing
Answers stay empty until two checks pass:
- An organization owner or admin approves AI data processing under AI service providers in organization settings. Until then, PostHog doesn't send source text to a model, and the Playground refuses questions.
- Each document passes the content check. Keyword search works as soon as it does. Semantic search can take up to an hour more, and the source shows indexing until it's ready.
Choose what every reply includes
Turn on Always include in replies for guidance that should be in every answer: tone, policies, and company direction. PostHog still runs the content check.
Connect your GitHub repos
Select the repositories your agents should know about. When document search finds nothing, Business Knowledge looks in those repositories for a matching file and reads it.
Your code is not indexed, and PostHog doesn't search inside files. Business Knowledge searches file names and README text, then reads the matching file from GitHub when an answer needs it.
Install the PostHog GitHub App, then connect it under GitHub repositories in Business Knowledge settings.
See what's covered and what's missing
Use Chat to ask a question a customer or teammate would ask. If the answer cites a source, that fact is already in Business Knowledge. If it can't find the fact, add a source and ask again. Use Search to see which chunks match a query, without an answer.
Learn from support
Let PostHog add reusable answers from resolved Support tickets. It learns only from public replies your team wrote, never from private notes or AI drafts.
Learning is off until you turn on Self-learning in Business Knowledge settings. Support has to be on in that environment first.
