Worker hog

We have scheduled maintenance on September 14th

We'll temporarily pause ingestion, but you won't lose any data.

What are you doing during the maintenance?

We're planning to upgrade the Postgres database for our EU cloud, moving from Aurora 11 to Aurora 15. This will make PostHog faster, and much more scalable.

This is planned maintenance, so there's a public GitHub issue if you'd like to follow the technical discussion.

Why will you pause ingestion, and for how long?

We can't efficiently upgrade the database while it's in use, so we'll temporarily pause ingestion while work is underway. We expect it to take around four hours, and we'll start at 17:00 UTC (18:00 BST / 18:00 WEST / 19:00 CEST / 20:00 EEST).

What will the impact be?

This work will only impact users on our EU Cloud, regardless of where the teams are physically located. Self-hosted, hobby, and US cloud users are unaffected. The US cloud has already been upgraded in a previous maintenance.

Teams on the EU Cloud will still be able to log in and analyze historic data as normal, but no new data will be ingested while the maintenance is underway. Instead, we'll queue that data and ingest it once the work is complete. We expect it to take approximately four hours.

Feature flags and experiments will function as expected for your users, but you won't be able to make changes to them until the upgrade is complete. Flags set to persist across authentication steps will not persist for new users who are identified during the upgrade.

Will I lose any data?

No. Data will be delayed during the maintenance period and become accessible once the work is complete.

How do I stay updated or report issues?

We'll keep this page updated with the latest information. We'll also post an in-app banner while work is underway and remove it once work is finished.

If you're seeing a bug or other unexpected behaviour, you can report it in the app. Alternatively, if you have a question you can ask us in our forum.

If you suspect an outage or incident affecting PostHog services, we recommend checking our status page before reporting.
