  • A/B testing – A/B testing compares two versions of a product by showing each to a randomly assigned group of users and measuring which performs better against a chosen metric. Random assignment is what lets the difference be attributed to the change.
  • Event-based analytics – Event-based analytics records what people do as a stream of named events with properties, rather than as counts of page visits. It is the data model underneath product analytics, session replay, experiments, and feature flag reporting.
  • Experiments – An experiment splits users between versions of a product and measures which version performs better against a chosen metric. PostHog Experiments builds on feature flags for assignment and on product analytics insights for measurement.
  • Feature flags – A feature flag is a condition in code that turns a feature on or off for a chosen set of users, without a new deployment. PostHog Feature Flags resolves those conditions from user properties, cohorts, and percentage rollouts.
  • Product analytics – Product analytics is the measurement of how people use a software product, based on events recorded as they use it. PostHog Product Analytics provides trends, funnels, retention, and user paths over that event data.
  • Product engineering – Product engineering is the practice of an engineer owning what to build as well as how to build it. A product engineer instruments a change, measures it, and decides what to do next, rather than receiving a specification.
  • Session replay – Session replay records what a person did in a product and plays it back as video. PostHog Session Replay captures clicks, scrolls, inputs, and page transitions, and links each recording to the events and errors from the same session.
