Linking Umami as a source
This source is currently in alpha. The interface and available tables may change.
Let AI connect your sources for you
Skip the manual setup — run this in your project and the wizard auto-detects your databases and APIs and connects them to PostHog.

The Umami connector syncs websites, sessions, and events into the PostHog data warehouse, so you can analyze them alongside your product data. Both Umami Cloud and self-hosted Umami deployments are supported.
Prerequisites
Credentials that can read the data you want to sync. PostHog only reads data, so read access is enough.
- Umami Cloud – an API key created in your Umami Cloud settings.
- Self-hosted Umami – an API key, or a username and password with read access to the websites you want to import. Accounts with two-factor authentication must use an API key.
Adding a data source
- In PostHog, go to the Sources tab of the data pipeline section.
- Click + New source and click Link next to this source.
- Enter your credentials (see Configuration below) and click Next.
- Select the tables you want to sync, choose a sync method and frequency, then click Import.
Once the syncs are complete, you can start querying this data in PostHog.
Umami Cloud
- Log in to your Umami Cloud dashboard.
- Go to Settings and create an API key.
- In PostHog, leave the API URL field empty (defaults to
https://api.umami.is/v1). If your Cloud account uses a regional endpoint, enterhttps://api.umami.is/v1/usorhttps://api.umami.is/v1/eu. - Enter your API key.
Self-hosted Umami
- Find your Umami instance's URL (for example,
https://umami.example.com). PostHog appends/apiautomatically if it isn't included. - In PostHog, enter the URL in the API URL field.
- Enter either your API key, or your Username and Password.
You'll be asked for:
- API URL (optional) – leave empty for Umami Cloud. Use
https://api.umami.is/v1/usorhttps://api.umami.is/v1/eufor regional Cloud URLs, or enter your self-hosted Umami URL. - API key (optional) – create one in Umami settings. Leave empty to use a self-hosted username and password.
- Username (optional) – for self-hosted instances without an API key.
- Password (optional) – for self-hosted instances without an API key.
Sync modes
Each table can be synced in one of several modes, depending on what the source supports:
- Webhook (when available) – the source pushes changes to PostHog in real time. Fastest freshness, lowest ongoing cost, and the only mode that reliably captures updates and deletes.
- Incremental – only new or updated rows are synced on each run, using a cursor field (such as an
updated_attimestamp). Cheaper than a full refresh, but deletes aren't captured. - Append only – new rows are appended using a cursor field; existing rows are never updated. Ideal for immutable, append-only tables like event logs.
- Full refresh – the whole table is reloaded on every sync. Use it when a table has no reliable cursor or when you need deletions reflected.
See sync methods for a full explanation of how each mode works and how to choose between them.
All Umami tables are full refresh. Each sync replaces the contents of the table.

Troubleshooting
- If the connection fails with an authorization error, the API key or credentials are wrong, expired, or have been revoked. Create new credentials, then reconnect the source.
- If a table syncs no rows, the account may not have access to any websites. Check your permissions in Umami, then reconnect the source.
- If the sync fails with a "capped results" error, Umami truncated the response. Increase the API result limit on your Umami server before syncing.
- If the sync fails with a "date range" error, the Umami server returned unexpected values. Check that your Umami version supports the date range endpoint.
- Accounts with two-factor authentication enabled must use an API key. Username and password authentication doesn't support two-factor authentication.
If your sync is failing or data looks wrong, see the Data warehouse troubleshooting guide. If that doesn't help, contact support – we're happy to help.
