# Investigate traffic with PostHog AI - Docs

[PostHog AI](/docs/posthog-ai.md) analyzes your [web traffic](/docs/web-analytics.md), investigates anomalies, and builds dashboards using natural language. Ask about traffic sources, bounce rates, user paths, or conversion rates – and PostHog AI queries your web analytics data to find answers.

## How it works

PostHog AI can break down your traffic by any dimension, including:

-   **Source and campaign** – organic, paid, referral, direct, and UTM-tagged traffic
-   **Geography** – country, region, and city
-   **Device** – desktop, mobile, tablet, browser, and OS
-   **Pages** – landing pages, exit pages, and navigation paths
-   **Time** – hourly, daily, weekly trends and comparisons

## Investigate anomalies

When you notice something unexpected – like a traffic spike or a sudden drop in conversions – PostHog AI can investigate. Ask "why did traffic drop on Tuesday?" and it compares across dimensions to identify what changed.

For example, PostHog AI might find that:

-   A specific referral source stopped sending traffic
-   Mobile traffic dropped while desktop stayed flat
-   A particular landing page's bounce rate spiked

This saves you from manually checking each dimension to isolate the cause.

## Tips for better results

-   **Name the dimension** – "by source" or "broken down by country" tells PostHog AI which breakdown to apply
-   **Ask about specific pages** – "bounce rate on `/pricing`" is more useful than "bounce rates"
-   **Compare time periods** – "this week vs last week" or "month over month" gives you trend context
-   **Describe the anomaly** – "Why did traffic drop on Tuesday?" prompts PostHog AI to investigate across dimensions
