# Create Surveys with PostHog AI - Docs

[PostHog AI](/docs/posthog-ai.md) creates [Surveys](/docs/surveys.md) from natural language descriptions. Describe the survey you want – including the audience, question types, and goals – and PostHog AI generates it with the right questions, targeting rules, and display conditions.

## How it works

PostHog AI selects the appropriate question types (NPS, rating scales, multiple choice, open text, and more), generates questions based on your research goals, configures targeting rules based on user properties or cohorts, and sets display conditions for when and where the survey appears.

You can refine the survey by asking follow-up questions like "add a follow-up question for detractors" or "only show this on the dashboard page."

## Survey types PostHog AI supports

## Tips for better results

-   **Describe your goal** – "understand why users churn" gives PostHog AI more context than "create a survey"
-   **Name the audience** – "for enterprise users" or "targeting users who completed onboarding" helps PostHog AI set the right targeting rules
-   **Specify question types** – "with an NPS question followed by an open-text question" tells PostHog AI exactly what format to use
-   **Include display conditions** – "only show on the dashboard page after 30 seconds" configures when the survey appears
-   **Ask for branching logic** – "If the user scores 0-6, ask why. If they score 9-10, ask what they love." sets up conditional follow-up questions
