For an EU Cloud project, use `https://eu.posthog.com` instead of `https://us.posthog.com` or `https://app.posthog.com` (app host for links). ## On this page - [Prerequisites](#prerequisites) - [Adding a data source](#adding-a-data-source) - [Sync modes](#sync-modes) - [Configuration](#configuration) - [Supported tables](#supported-tables) - [Markets table](#markets-table) - [Troubleshooting](#troubleshooting) **Beta release** This source is currently in **beta**. RentCast is a property-lookup API billed per request. ## Adding a data source 1. In PostHog, go to the [Sources tab](https://app.posthog.com/data-management/sources) of the data pipeline section. 2. Click **\+ New source** and click **Link** next to this source. 3. Enter your credentials (see [Configuration](#configuration) below) and click **Next**. 4. Select the tables you want to sync, choose a sync method and frequency, then click **Import**. Once the syncs are complete, you can start querying this data in PostHog. When linking RentCast, you'll need: - **API key** – create a key under **API dashboard** in [RentCast](https://app.rentcast.io/app/api). The key grants read access to property records, active sale and rental listings, and market statistics. - **ZIP codes for market statistics** *(optional)* – a comma-separated list of 5-digit US ZIP codes (e.g. `29611, 78701`). Only needed if you want to sync the `markets` table. Each ZIP code uses one RentCast API request per sync. ## Sync modes Each table can be synced in one of several modes, depending on what the source supports: - **Webhook** (when available) – the source pushes changes to PostHog in real time. Fastest freshness, lowest ongoing cost, and the only mode that reliably captures updates and deletes. - **Incremental** – only new or updated rows are synced on each run, using a cursor field (such as an `updated_at` timestamp). Cheaper than a full refresh, but deletes aren't captured. - **Append only** – new rows are appended using a cursor field; existing rows are never updated. Ideal for immutable, append-only tables like event logs. - **Full refresh** – the whole table is reloaded on every sync. Use it when a table has no reliable cursor or when you need deletions reflected. See [sync methods](https://posthog.com/docs/data-pipelines/sources.md#sync-methods) for a full explanation of how each mode works and how to choose between them. This source is full refresh only. RentCast does not expose a server-side timestamp filter, so incremental sync is not available. ## Configuration | Option | Description | | --- | --- | | `API key` **Type:** password **Required:** True | | | `ZIP codes for market statistics` **Type:** text **Required:** False | A comma-separated list of 5-digit US ZIP codes. Only the markets table uses it. | ## Supported tables | Table | Description | Sync method | Incremental field | Primary key | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `properties` | A US property record, including its address, physical attributes, ownership, and sale history. | Full refresh | — | — | | `sale_listings` | An active or recently seen property sale listing. | Full refresh | — | — | | `rental_listings` | An active or recently seen long-term rental listing. | Full refresh | — | — | | `markets` | Aggregate sale and rental market statistics and monthly historical trends for one US ZIP code. | Full refresh | — | — | | Table | Description | Sync method | Incremental field | Primary key | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `properties` | A US property record, including its address, physical attributes, ownership, and sale history. | Full refresh | — | — | | `sale_listings` | An active or recently seen property sale listing. | Full refresh | — | — | | `rental_listings` | An active or recently seen long-term rental listing. | Full refresh | — | — | | `markets` | Aggregate sale and rental market statistics and monthly historical trends for one US ZIP code. | Full refresh | — | — | ## Markets table The `markets` table provides sale and rental statistics for the ZIP codes you configure. Unlike the other tables, it requires at least one ZIP code to sync — if no ZIP codes are set, the table is disabled by default. Each ZIP code makes one API request per sync. If RentCast has no data for a particular ZIP code, that ZIP code is skipped and the sync continues. ## Troubleshooting - If you see a **401 Unauthorized** error, your RentCast API key is invalid or has been revoked. Generate a new key in the [RentCast API dashboard](https://app.rentcast.io/app/api), then reconnect. - If you see a **403 Forbidden** error, your API key does not have access to the requested data. Check the key's plan and permissions, then reconnect. - RentCast enforces per-minute rate limits. If syncs are slow or temporarily failing, this is likely due to rate limiting — the connector retries automatically. - If you see **"The RentCast markets table needs at least one ZIP code"**, add at least one 5-digit US ZIP code to the source settings. - If you see **"RentCast ZIP codes must be 5-digit US ZIP codes"**, check that each ZIP code is exactly 5 digits and entries are comma-separated. If your sync is failing or data looks wrong, see the [Data warehouse troubleshooting guide](https://posthog.com/docs/data-warehouse/troubleshooting.md). If that doesn't help, [contact support](https://us.posthog.com/#panel=support%3Asupport%3Adata_warehouse%3A%3Atrue) – we're happy to help.
